Arthur & Layssa

Sought-after across the world, Arthur and Layssa are one of the most dedicated, passionate and driven Brazilian dance couples active in the scene today.

Arthur

Arthur was born in Goiânia, Brazil and discovered his passion for dance as a 12-year old high school student. During his school years he learnt Jazz and Contemporary dance styles: formative experiences which have shaped him as a leading performer, teacher and choreographer.

It was in 2007 that he began dancing Latin and Brazilian Ballroom, and within 3 months was invited to become part of Sport Dance's company where he learned Brazilian Zouk, Salsa, Samba de Gafieira, Bolero, Chachacha, Forró and one of his favourites: Argentine Tango.

In December 2007 he did his first Zouk workshop with "The Queen of Zouk" - Renata Peçanha - in Goiânia and has never looked back.

From 2008 to 2009, he studied in Morelia, Mexico and began teaching Brazilian dance at the Mundo Dance Academy. An early career highlight was being invited by Paulina Posadas (7x Salsa On2 World Champion) to be part of her dance company MoreSalsa. Through this association he deepened and improved his dance, particularly in Salsa.

In 2010, Arthur was accepted into Goiás Federal University where he studied physical education, taking particular interest in human anatomy, bio-mechanics and gymnastics: knowledge he continues to apply to his dance and teaching today.

In 2012 he opened his own school in Goiânia: the Arthur Liebscher Dance Studio.

This first foray into business was the impetus to take a bold move in 2013 and relocate to Adelaide, Australia with his dance partner Layssa Liebsher - herself a world-renowned Brazilian dancer. Two years later in 2015 they received their Distinguished Talent visas.

Together they have been tirelessly building, supporting and nurturing a strong Brazilian Zouk community while teaching a variety of Brazilian dance styles.

In 2016 they founded Brasilatino - Adelaide's premiere Brazilian & Latin dance school.

In addition to community-building Arthur and Layssa regularly travel domestically and overseas, including countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, China, Holland, Finland, Poland, England and many cities in USA like Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Miami, LA and Washington DC.

Layssa

Layssa was born in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil and at 14 years old she discovered her passion for Classical Ballet with her teacher Sandra Castro.

In 2007 her passion for dance led her to discover Latin and Brazilian Ballroom dance, and she quickly specialized in Brazilian Zouk and Samba de Gafieira as a teacher at Renata Peçanha’s Dance Company in Brazil.

During her time there she performed with the company at numerous congresses, shows and competitions: an early career highlight was placing 1st at the "Onda Zouk" competition.

Layssa's capabilities as a professional dancer have been shaped by a dedication over many years to Jazz, Classical Ballet and Contemporary: demanding dance styles which have greatly improved her technique and elevated her understanding and teaching of dance. In addtion to private practice she has been engaged professionally with the Márcia Pinheiro Company, where she choreographed shows for Ballet and Contemporary dance.

From 2009 to 2012 Layssa taught and performed Brazilian Zouk and Samba de Gafieira both nationally and internationally.

It was in 2013 that Layssa started a new career, forming a dance partnership with Arthur Santos. In 2015 they received Distinguished Talent visas from the Australian Government, enabling them to permanently relocate to Adelaide.

Beyond Adelaide, Layssa and Arthur continue to teach and travel across Australia and the world, including countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, China, Holland, Finland, Poland, England and many cities in USA like Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Miami, LA and Washington DC.
